About Deluca Trattoria
Johannes Kraschitzer, known affectionately as “Chef Hannes,” grew up in the small Austrian town of Honigsberg, situated between Vienna and Graz. He graduated from secondary school at the age of fifteen and began an apprenticeship with a local restaurant, where it became obvious that young Johannes was a bonafide lover of the culinary arts, and possessed great skill and determination. And so began a stellar career of measured, incremental successes that continues to define the creations of an amazingly diverse, and complex, artist.
At 19, Chef Hannes parlayed his innate abilities and finely-honed skills into a seasonal chef position whereby he worked at reputable vacation resorts in exotic locales including an Austrian ski destination in Ramsau, a lakefront hideaway in Millstatt, and aboard the Orient Express as it passed between Moroco, Egypt and France.
But it is America where this adept traveler decided to put his art on permanent display— from New York’s Finger Lake area, where three years experience forced a German speaking chef to learn English, to Los Angeles, California and the front door of Barnabey’s Hotel in Manhattan Beach. Later, Chef Hannes became a house favorite amongst the celebrity clientele of the Beverly Hills’ private cigar lounge, “The Grand Havana Room,” and was frequently requested to cook for private events.
